Coronavirus — what can you do to be prepared

Pandemic and disaster preparation

Despitenumerous government programs that encourage people to be prepared, and natural disasters that occur with some regularity across the country and the world, far too many of us aren’t prepared. We mean to get prepared, we understand its part of what we should be doing as a responsible adult just like having home or life insurance (you do have both right? Particularly if you have a family???). But things come up, life gets busy, and money gets tight.

Then people realize that the hurricane is coming their way, or the coronavirus might not just be a Chinese problem, but will probably affect us here in the US as well. Next thing you know store shelves are empty and you are paying exorbitant prices for a case of N95 masks or hand sanitizer on Amazon (I’ve seen cases of N95 masks that normally cost $20 go from $80 to $120 over the last couple of days).

Moreover, besides the fact that it’s quite possible you won’t be able to get what you want when you want it if you wait, unlike a disaster like a hurricane you might not want to go out if things get bad even if supplies are available. Social distancing is the best way to not get you or your family sick. The last thing you want to do is be forced to go to the store for something essential and then bring back the virus to your family.
